[5/8, 11:40 AM] Hardeep Sodhi: SHOULDER SUBLUXATION

In last evening’s open house we talked a bit about it and Forum Shroff Kindly provided some tips on how to detect it as well as some simple exercises and precautions one may attempt.

Since others here may be facing similar problem, here are two links found on the Web that may help. Do practice any exercise only carefully and under supervision of your therapist. If you have any inputs to share please add in to this thread, thank you.

[5/22, 9:09 AM] Dr. Krishna NS: Hi very good morning all !!

Shoulder subluxation is an important thing to be discussed, as it acts as a proximal joint especially in stroke rehab. This is mainly due to weakening of arm component muscles.Subluxation is a significant problem in poststroke hemiplegia, resulting in pain and loss of function. It can be corrected through by providing shoulder sling and few therapeutic exercises and positioning.Positioning the arm plays a major role in subluxation of the shoulder joint.

      -Sling

      -Weight bearing position

      -Proper positioning

[5/22, 9:39 AM] Poornima Karia: Thanks great strategies- just avoid the sling because arm will be stuck inwards / internal rotation we always want- EXTENSION AND EXTERNAL ROTATION that is hand turned outward

      [5/22, 9:43 AM] Dr. Krishna NS: Noted ! ?

But in the initial stages in acute rehab set up we can’t expect the patient to be hold in weight bearing position.I am not concluding that sling can reduce subluxation, sling can support.

      Thanks
