Let us face it – a stroke is not an easy disease to understand, let alone handle. As one passes through various phases of understanding , accepting and recovering from stroke, many questions arise.

Can stroke happen to anyone ?
While there are some pre-indicators, fact is that stroke is truly an ‘equal opportunity disease’ and many times strikes for no apparent reason. Indeed, perinatal ( in the womb ) stroke also happens, and it happens to children as well !
Here is a video from a stroke survivor that brings this out clearly and the surprises stroke can bring. Also an excellent example of a stroke warrior’s recovery and role attitude, family and stroke support groups in same. Also brings out difficulties sometimes in diagnosing a stroke.
How long does stroke recovery take ?
Each stroke is different from another and there are no hard and fast rules. Recovery is majorly dependent upon one’s own determination and efforts.

Does stroke recovery stop after 2/3/4..months ..or years..?
It is now well established that stroke recovery is a continuous process, and continues as long as the stroke survivor makes efforts. Great recoveries have been reported very often, sometimes many years after stroke.
Stroke recovery is essentially brain recovery. The concept of Neuroplasticity helps understand the process. Following articles-and videos therein – provide more information :

What speech issues may occur after stroke ?
Aphasia is a common effect of stroke, particularly if it stroke has impacted the left side of the brain.
This article explains what Aphasia is and various treatments thereafter.
Good recovery indeed happens. For example Mark Moore ( see video above ) underwent speech therapy too.
Does music help in stroke recovery ?
