Aphasia is a communication disorder that affects a person’s ability to use and understand language. Stroke is a major cause of Aphasia. Individuals with aphasia may have difficulty speaking, understanding spoken or written language, reading, and writing. The severity and specific symptoms of aphasia can vary widely, ranging from mild to severe.

Treatment for aphasia often involves speech therapy, which aims to improve communication skills and help individuals regain language abilities. Additionally, support from family, friends, and the community is crucial for individuals with aphasia to navigate daily communication challenges and maintain a fulfilling quality of life.

Our Aphasia support group aims to provided useful resources for individuals living with aphasia and their caregivers. It provides a supportive and understanding environment where members can share experiences, exchange coping strategies, and offer encouragement. It has of individuals at various stages of their aphasia journey, creating a diverse community that fosters empathy and mutual support.

Join our Aphasia Support Group to have:

  1. Emotional Support: Members can express their feelings, frustrations, and successes with others who understand the challenges of living with aphasia.
  2. Information Sharing: Participants can share valuable information about treatment options, therapy techniques, and resources for living with aphasia.
  3. Social Interaction: The group setting encourages social interaction, reducing feelings of isolation and promoting a sense of community among individuals with aphasia.
  4. Skill Development: Through group activities and discussions, members may enhance their communication skills in a supportive and non-judgmental setting.
  5. Encouragement and Inspiration: Witnessing the progress and achievements of fellow group members can provide motivation and inspiration for individuals facing similar challenges.

Some members of the Aphasia Support Group meet on Zoom on a weekly basis to practice their communication skills. A structured curriculum with regular feedback is followed. Such efforts are lead by Ms Shruthi, herself caregiver to Mr. Gururaj who is a stroke/aphasia affected. The affected/caregivers pay partly for these sessions, and balance support is provided by Stroke Support India as well as Ms Shruthi.
